Attending the Ashoka Young Scholars Program was a life-changing experience that left an indelible mark on me. From the moment I arrived on the vibrant, lively campus, I knew this journey would be extraordinary. The program not only provided me with an exceptional educational opportunity but also introduced me to remarkable individuals who enriched my journey.
One of the highlights of my time at Ashoka were the people I met. The campus was buzzing with brilliant minds, each one more passionate and driven than the next. Among them, I found an amazing roommate with whom I shared countless late-night conversations. These discussions ranged from our future aspirations to personal stories that forged a deep bond between us. By the end of the program, parting ways was incredibly heartbreaking, as we had become very close friends. Who knew sleep-deprived, late-night musings could build such strong connections?
The campus itself was nothing short of spectacular. It was an eclectic mix of modern infrastructure and serene green spaces, creating an environment that was both stimulating and relaxing. The rooms and bathrooms, which reminded me of my boarding school days, were designed for comfort and functionality, making it easy for me to settle in and feel at home. It was like the universe was shouting, “Here’s your chance to escape your comfort zone and live a little!”
And then there was the legendary chaat day and the group photograph—truly the stuff of dreams. Picture this: a sea of students devouring spicy, tangy street food while trying to keep their best smiles for the camera. It was a glorious mess of flavor and friendship.
The counselors at Ashoka were incredibly supportive, always there to guide us through the sessions with the professors. These sessions were the cornerstone of the program. Each lecture and discussion was an eye-opener, offering new perspectives and deep insights. They were boring sometimes, but I managed to keep my ears and eyes open throughout. Despite not being an avid note-taker, I found myself jotting down notes in every single class, eager to capture the wealth of knowledge being shared. Imagine my shock at finding that my hand could still write so much. Crazy. I even drew and did a lot of doodles, not to forget on my as well as on my partner’s notebooks.
One particularly inspiring session was led by one of the co-founders of Inshorts, Deepit Purkayastha. His journey and insights into entrepreneurship were both motivating and enlightening. Hearing his story ignited a spark in me to consider starting my own business, a dream I had never seriously contemplated before. Who knew a short story could have such a long-lasting impact?
The program also balanced academics with physical activity, featuring sports plays in the evening. Everyone's enthusiasm and team spirit made the event enjoyable and memorable. I mean, who doesn't love a good excuse to run around and pretend we’re athletes for a day?
The culmination of our time at Ashoka was marked by a talent night on the last day. It was a joyous celebration of our diverse talents and newfound friendships. The performances were outstanding, leaving an indelible impression on all of us. This night of laughter, music, and creativity was a fitting end to an unforgettable experience. The best dance was No Caps by one of the boys dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s beats.
While the food on campus was not particularly remarkable (think cafeteria chic), the presence of various shops and outlets compensated for it. These places became popular hangouts where we could unwind and enjoy a variety of snacks and drinks. After every class, there were so many lines that I had to constantly run towards the outlet to fill my stomach, which is why I missed sports every single day.
The funny thing is, I even visited the infirmary, so technically, I had a whole campus tour in just a week. How incredible.
Reflecting on my time at the Ashoka Young Scholars Program, I am filled with gratitude and longing. The experience not only broadened my academic horizons but also fostered personal growth and lifelong friendships. It solidified my desire to study at Ashoka University, where the vibrant community and inspiring environment can continue to shape my future.
The last day of the Ashoka Young Scholars Program was an explosion of fun and camaraderie. As the music played, we danced to a mix of Hindi beats and popular songs, capturing the moments in countless reels that we later shared with each other. The energy on the floor was electric; everyone, regardless of their background or culture, came together in a united celebration. We exchanged phone numbers, ensuring that the bonds we formed would continue beyond the program. Later that night, we gathered to make Maggi, sharing stories and influencing each other with our diverse experiences and aspirations. These heartwarming moments of connection and laughter added a special touch to the end of an already unforgettable experience, reinforcing the sense of community and friendship that defined our time at Ashoka. Because nothing says “lasting friendship” like bonding over instant noodles at 2 AM.
